On this site you’ll often find a list of ideas instead of a step by step guide or a polished, all inclusive lesson plan. This is based on our belief that everyone needs different things at different times in different ways. What will work for one person won’t be best for another. With that in mind comes the idea to TAKE & TWEAK.
“Tweak : to change (something) slightly in order to improve it : to make small adjustments to (something)” -www.merriam-webster.com
If you see an idea on our site (or anywhere) that you like and think it might work for you or your family, TAKE and use that part of the idea. It’s not a take it or leave it deal. Take the part you like and leave the rest.
Then TWEAK or change the idea as needed to work for the size, age or personalities of the group you’re working with. Now we’re not talking about altering someone’s copyrighted work to fit your needs or picking and choosing which of God’s commandments sound best at the moment. We’re talking about being very selective about and adapting ideas to fit the needs of your family or group so you can have the most successful learning experience possible. Don’t just choose anything that might work, but choose things they need and things that will work for them right now. We’re suggesting you consider the unique individuals that you’re working with…their likes, needs, attention spans, abilities, current challenges….you get the idea. Basically we’re talking about focusing on people rather than a predefined lesson or program.
So when you see our lists of ideas, take some if you like them. Mix and match. Take an idea from one place and add it to an idea from another post. Change the order. Simplify it or add more questions and discussion. Take & Tweak! And be sure to add your own ideas and inspiration too.
We’d love to hear what you came up with and how it worked out. Especially what ideas of your own you added. Please share your stories with us.
